Happy Birthday to Jenine “Mrs. DeLong’s-English-Class-Survivor” Hinkle.
I met up with Jenine about 2 weeks ago and well what can I say…known her since 4th grade, went to high school with her (although it was a blur) and now we meet up after 10 years. Its interesting where life can take you and what battles you can take on. I always remembered her as one of the smartest kids in school and well now she is a USC Law grad. Are we surprised? Nah man, I just about spit up my Maggiano’s pasta when she said she struggled in school.
Needless to say, what she thought were rough years of low grades and true colors- I just still see a friggin brilliant girl who just comes from a good place. I love reconnecting with people and I love it more when they have real life experiences to share. Jenine reassured me that her trials have tested her and have tweaked her confidence in so many ways- I just wasn’t able to notice them.
Trials are known to build character and produce fruit.
After all this IS the girl who breezed through Mrs. DeLong’s class turning in journals that consisted of rap lyrics from Ain’t Nothin but a G-thang.
Here’s to another year of life.
(I wrote this early so I could remember before I left to Austin-ha!)
